Auditory Processing Disorder - APD

Afterpay accepted here

What is APD:

APD, or Auditory Processing Disorder, could be described as dyslexia of the ears. Just as dyslexia is a disconnect between the eyes and the brain, APD is a disconnect between the ears and the brain. This means that a child or adult with APD needs to focus on understanding speech, and distractions such as background noise can make it very difficult for them to understanding what they are hearing.

How to assist:

Reducing background noise and reverberation (an inaudible echo that makes sounds less clear for people with APD or hearing loss) can be very difficult in the classroom (and elsewhere). There are often a lot of hard surfaces, which increases the reverberation, and even the most well-behaved class often makes noise when they aren’t supposed to.

The best solution is the Roger Touchscreen microphone transmitting the teacher’s voice directly to the student wearing the Roger Focus II.

Ideally, there should also be a multimedia hub, to assist the student understanding the sound from electronic whiteboard/s, and a pass around microphone and Soundfield Speaker to understand other students and additional teachers.

Using the PassAround Mics also helps students to remember to wait their turn rather than speaking at the same time, and gives a student with APD time to know who to shift their attention to before the next speaker starts.

The Roger Touchscreen Microphone is one of the most flexible. With 3 modes and 3 built-in microphones for small group, pointing and lanyard use, the Roger Touchscreen Microphone reduces background noise in all modes using 3 microphones, rather than two. This means it is able to reduce more noise in small group mode than the Mini-Mic 2+ for Cochlear N5, N6 and N7.

Ideal for classrooms with a large, easy to find mute button which flashes red when muted so the the onus is not always on the hearing impaired person in the room to speak up.

Can be used with the Roger SoundField so that everyone benefits from a clearer sound.

To use the Roger Touchscreen Microphone, pair it with any of our Roger receivers including:
